1Choose level
2How big are the numbers?
3Read aloud
How to do it
- Read the equation, for example 5 + X = 6. The task is to find the number that X should be.
- Build the program: drag blocks from the palette to your code, or click on them. Type numbers in the white boxes.
- Press Run. The X box on the stage shows what the variable is right now, and the robot says what it will be.
- If the equation is correct, the code lock opens. Otherwise, you will be told whether X should be larger or smaller.
What you practice
- EquationsFind the number that makes both sides equal.
- VariablesA variable is a box with a number in it, which the program can change.
- Opposite operationsPlus and minus cancel each other out, just like times and divided by.
- Algorithms and loopsLet the computer try step by step until the condition is true.

About variables
In math, X stands for a number we do not know yet. In programming, X is a variable: a named box where the program can store a number and change it. The blocks work like in Scratch – orange blocks handle variables, green blocks calculate, and yellow blocks control how the program runs.
