2What would you like to do?

3🌍 Around the world journey

The journey goes eastward around the world. Stop 1 is always the easiest, and then it gets harder with each stop: bigger sites and fewer shovel clicks. No site is harder than any other – it just depends on how far you have come.

2How many are digging?

3Who is on the expedition?

Easy digs mostly at random. Medium keeps digging next to pieces it has found. Hard figures out where the finds are most likely to be – it is really good!

4Where are you digging?

4The Excavation Site

5How long is the season?

The shovels are shared by the whole expedition. If you manage to dig up everything before they run out, the expedition has succeeded.

6Rules

Did you find something – dig again?
Metal Detector

Once per game, each player can use the metal detector instead of digging. It shows how many artifact pieces are hiding in a 3 × 3 square – but the turn passes to the next player.

How to play

Under the sand lie hidden discoveries – different on every site: rune stones on Gotland, mummies in Egypt, dinosaur eggs in the Gobi Desert. You take turns digging one square at a time in the same spot. Only sand and gravel? Then it is the next person's turn. If you find a piece of something, you get 1 point – and usually get to dig again. If you uncover the last piece, the whole find is saved and you get 3 bonus points. Think like a detective: the finds have different shapes and are never side by side. Together you need to dig up everything before the season's digs run out – but who will find the most?

What You Practice

  • LogicDraw conclusions: where might the rest of the find be located?
  • CoordinatesSquares with a letter and number, like B4.
  • History and fossilsLearn about Vikings, pharaohs, the Inca people, dinosaurs, and ancient times.
  • GeographyTravel the world: where are Gotland, Giza, the Gobi Desert, and the Andes?
  • CollaborationTogether toward the goal – and fair competition.

Your expeditions

The record counts when you dig alone and find everything. Against robots, it counts based on the hardest robot's level.
